20 Rare Dog Breeds You Have Probably Never Heard Of

6. Alaskan Klee Kai

The Alaskan Klee Kai resembles a miniature Siberian Husky and is a relatively new breed. Their name means small dog, and they are more domesticated than Huskies. These energetic dogs need plenty of activity, like their larger cousins. Developed in Alaska in the 1970s and 1980s, they were bred as companion sized Huskies. They come in toy, miniature, and standard sizes, standing 13 to 17 inches tall. Despite their size, they show classic Husky traits, including facial masks and varied coat colors. Alaskan Klee Kai are smart, alert, and excellent watchdogs. They can be shy with strangers but bond deeply with family. They enjoy mental and physical challenges like agility and puzzle toys.
